Speed Boating

February 24, 2021

This is a sport that requires speed and skill on the part of its crew, who on board kayaks or canoes must compete on calm or calm waters divided by lanes limited by buoys. The participants, whether one, two or four, must propel the boat with paddles until it reaches 1000, 500 and 200 meters in length.

Speed boating, of Olympic category since the Berlin Games in 1936, encompasses two disciplines: canoeing and kayaking; During the XIX Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, both will be held in the Ciénaga de Zapatosa, in the male and female categories.

Historically, it is said that boating was invented by Eskimos, but the one practiced today is said to have been started by expedition members from Europe. In Colombia, this sport began in 1997 in the country's capital, with Cuban Jorge Luis Torres as an instructor.
